While all Virtual Assistants are uniquely different, there are some basic qualities you want to look for.  These qualities include:

  • Computer savvy;
  • Able to meet deadlines;
  • Communicates well;
  • Proficient in their particular specialty;
  • Understanding of basic business practices;
  • and so much more…

If a VA offers a free consultation, it is a good idea to make an appointment to speak to them, so you can determine if they will be a good fit for your business or not. Remember that virtual assistants are business owners themselves, and as such, they should have a good understanding of what they can offer you, to help move your business forward.

A good VA will allow you to do a “trial time” where you, the client, buy a limited amount of hours, and give the VA a smaller project to start with, so you can both get a feel for how the other works, and see if you’re a good match to work together. Sometimes people just don’t work well together, and it’s not one person, or the other’s fault, it’s just not a good match. Give a small but challenging project to start, so you can see if the VA you’d like to hire, can handle the kind of work you’d like to see them complete.

It is also a good idea to have a separate list of qualities that you might like to have in your VA, such as, a pleasant phone personality, easy to get along with, willing to take on additional tasks and so forth. You want to find someone who will help YOU, as you both propel your business to the next level.
