Winter has waved her magic wand and as the drops of rain fall, so the once golden fields and vleis turn to a carpet of green. Arum lilies show their luminous faces, scattered across the vlei and yellow daisies brighten foggy mornings. Bougainvillea – the hardy shrub that flowers throughout the year, seem to froth over walls and scramble up trees, proudly displaying colours that one would think could only really ever be seen in summer. It’s been years since I’ve been here in the Cape at this time of year. You forget how quickly the African nights draw in…. and how long they last…. Strange to be leaving the house just after 7am in the morning, start walking my daughter to school in the dark, and watch the sunrise. As those of you in Africa know, an African sunrise can be one of the most spectacular shows nature performs for us… beautiful soft pinks and bursts of orange flush the clouds and make a brisk morning walk quite lovely.
We have also had some beautiful winter days. You know those days when the wide African sky is so blue that seems to dazzle your eyes and almost make your teeth ache? The air is crisp and clear, and it’s a pleasure to stand in the sun and soak in the heat. Talking about soaking up some sun – some of our clients have finally managed to do just that!

This winter weather brings to mind cosy evenings, eating scrumptious food and relaxing around a warm wood fire, something you can do very easily at the Post House in Greyton. Greyton is a small town in the spectacular Overberg region in the Western Cape, surrounded by the Hottentots-Holland Mountains, the Riviersonderend Mountains, the Atlantic, Indian Oceans and the Breede River. Towering mountains, covered in a blanket of green winter grass, slope down towards the village nestling in the foothills. The picturesque town boasts a variety of art galleries, eateries and quaint shops. Situated in this charming village is the Post House. It is always a pleasure to meet people who are as committed to customer service and restoring the balance to your life as those at the Post House are. Built in 1860 the Post House is a national monument and has been refurbished to offer guests elegant, luxurious services and surroundings, a gem of a getaway spot, conference facilities for businesses and intimate country weddings.

“The Posthouse provided a very luxurious stay for an active weekend for my husband and I. We spent the day mountain biking on the many MTB trails the town Greyton has to offer and coming back to our room to be enveloped in luxury….. Breakfast was scrumptious and the chef went out of his way to accommodate for our special needs meal….. The staff, especially the waitresses were super friendly. I would return to The Posthouse.”
Also, “We have just spent a night at the Post House. We loved it. The staff went out of their way to be helpful. The room was cosy and luxurious and the food was exceptional. The dining is of fine dining quality but very reasonably priced. I had a Gnocchi dish which ranks as the best gnocchi I have ever tasted anywhere in the world. The ambience is delightful, the furnishings, fittings, setting etc. are all in keeping with the charm and environment of Greyton. I highly recommend this hotel. We will go back on a regular basis. A real find.”
